SSL – Make your website SSL compliant
Install SSL certificate to your website
Your site may be labeled “Not Secure”. How does this affect you?
What visitors see when accessing your website is changing. Creating a trusted environment where potential customers feel protected when making purchases is one of the most important pieces of online business success. But, if your site is not protected by an SSL certificate, people using a Google Chrome browser will now get a security warning. Even contact forms, email text fields, and search boxes may trigger one. In fact, any site that collects user information, whether in incognito mode or not, will now be labeled as “Not Secure”. And Google has already begun issuing warnings when prospects arrive at a non-HTTPS site using their Chrome browser.
Avoid being labeled “Not Secure”. An SSL Certificate will encrypt your visitor’s sensitive data, and also display your site with “HTTPS” in the address bar, letting visitors know you’ve made their security a top priority.
SSL certificates create a foundation of trust by establishing that secure connection. Web users have come to identify their security online with the lock icon that comes with an SSL-secured website or green address bar that comes with an Extended Validation SSL-secured website. Many will leave the site if they don’t see it’s encrypted properly.
It is expected that Google will eventually require HTTPS for every site page on Chrome, even without fields, as they try to make surfing the web safer and more secure for Chrome users. If you think that’s a small piece of the pie, approximately 45% of internet users use a Chrome browser.
In addition, Google says the use of SSL as a ranking signal, while still not a huge component, is indeed a factor. While cyber attacks are on their way to being more common than not, there’s a greater need for SSL to become a universal standard. Google wants to “encourage all website owners to switch from HTTP to HTTPS to keep everyone safe on the web.” The fact that it may be a much bigger part of Google’s algorithm in the future, we’re already seeing as a huge bonus.
